The Free Expression and Public Assembly Ordinance
1A Santa Fe is sponsoring proposed legislation to bring Santa Fe in line with municipalities that wholeheartedly align themselves with federal and state guarantees of free expression.
The proposed Free Expression and Public Assembly Ordinance has these central provisions:
Aims to afford expressive activities full protection under the U.S. and New Mexico constitutions while allowing the City to achieve legitimate governmental interests in public safety and convenience.
Establishes a streamlined notification process that imposes no costs or fees on organizers of planned large-scale expressive activities like rallies, marches, and demonstrations.
Commits the City of Santa Fe to automatic, non-discretionary approval of these activities, to ensure no discrimination on the basis of content, viewpoint, or subject-matter.

1A Santa Fe is collecting signatures from Santa Fe area residents who want the City to adopt the Free Expression and Public Assembly Ordinance. Our plan is to present the Ordinance and the petition in support to the Santa Fe City Councilors and the Mayor. We are collecting signatures several ways, including online.
