No Kings 3 in Santa Fe saw a tremendous turnout, with plenty of energy and thoughtful opposition to Trump, ICE, the war of choice the Trump regime is waging in Iran, and the general corruption and lawlessness of the current federal government. I spent the day by or in the streets of the City of Santa Fe. It was inspirational to see thousands of people, led by the incomparable Sambe Fe band, use the streets to say: no kings - in a constitutional democracy no government official is above the law.

I thank every person who marched from the Roundhouse to downtown.

I also thank the people who came together to make and distribute 1A Santa Fe whistle kits. We gave out close to 1000 whistle kits, on top of the 5000 or so distributed by Indivisible Santa Fe.

Thank you too to those who showed up to help the band navigate the streets, and to all those who have been following and supporting 1A Santa Fe’s effort to have the City of Santa Fe come into compliance with the free speech provisions of the U.S. and New Mexico Constitutions. Gratitude to police officers for working extra shifts to ensure public safety. Thanks to those who picked up whistle kits I dropped, to those who carried the American flag at the front of the march, to those who chanted and walked.

To see people take advantage of streets closed to vehicles to go freely through the City of Santa Fe moved me profoundly. In the face of authoritarianism and fascism, we lived our rights to peacefully assemble and express our views. Rights on paper are an abstraction. Rights exercised where we live are essential to the salvation of constitutional democracy in the United States.

It took thousands of us to make today’s City March a real, significant event. I’m so proud to stand with everybody who turned out. Looking forward to the next time we take to the streets!
